The Andhra Pradesh Government is seeking 500 MW of additional power from the unallocated pool of the Central power generating stations to get over the current demand-supply mismatch. The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, called upon the State Power Ministry officials to take up the matter with the Centre at the forthcoming meeting of Power Ministers in New Delhi.
Alongside, the State Government is keen to discuss some of the pending projects and plans to request expediting the Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) coming up at Krishnapatnam.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Mr Rosaiah said “we may request the Government to intervene and ensure that works on the UMPP are expedited. This is to ensure that the project is operational by early Twelfth Plan as this will significantly improve the power supply situation in the State.”
At the Delhi conference, the State is set to request the Centre to sanction coal linkage for AP Genco's 600 MW Sathupalli thermal power station, 5x800 MW Vodarevu project, gas linkage for the 2,100 MW Karimnagar project and clearances for the Integrated gasification combined cycle project of 182 MW being taken up in the country for the first time.
Of the scheduled capacity addition of 4,560 MW during the Eleventh Plan period of 2007-08 to 2011-12, including State, Central and private, already 2,059 MW has been added as on March 31, 2010. The State now has capacity of 14,041 MW and the rest of the planned capacity of 2,501 MW would be added by the Plan period.
All the projects are being monitored by the State.
Transco has tied up Rs 4,453 crore, including Rs 1,265 crore, from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and Power Finance Corporation.
